SmarterMail 7.x Released

The latest version of SmarterMail has been released. Below is a quick FAQ of questions we have been asked and anticipate.

How do I get the latest version?
You can upgrade to the latest version if you have current upgrade protection. Simply download and install the new version to upgrade your existing installation.

I have upgrade protection so how do I get my SmarterMail 7 key?
Your key does not change. The licensing server is updated to allow your key to run a v7 installation. Simply install and activate v7 with your existing key.

How do I renew my upgrade protection?
You can renew your upgrade protection here. You must renew your upgrade protection before it expires to qualify for the discounted renewal pricing. You can renew up to 60 days before expiry. THERE IS NO GRACE PERIOD.

I do not have upgrade protection how do I upgrade?
You must purchase upgrade protection to be able to perform the upgrade. If you do not have any upgrade protection then you must purchase expired upgrade protection.

I can not upgrade my SmarterMail installation from a SmarterBundle?
The SmarterBundle does not include upgrade protection. You will have to purchase upgrade protection to be able to upgrade.

Can I just purchase a one off upgrade?
All SmarterTools products now come with upgrade protection. This covers your product for 12 months with unlimited upgrades at no extra charge. It is not possible to purchase one off upgrades.

Can I downgrade my mailbox limits?
It is not possible to reduce the mailbox limits of a particular key. If you have a 1000 mailbox key then you must purchase upgrade protection for 1000 mailboxes. Alternatively it may be cheaper to purchase a new lower limit key.

Do you offer a discount to upgrade?
We offer a 10% discount on all SmarterTools products including upgrade protection.

SmarterMail 6.8.3750 Released


SmarterTools announces the release of SmarterMail 6.8.3750. Highlights of the SmarterMail 6.8.3750 release include:

  • ADDED: Mailing list names can now be changed.
  • ADDED: The mailing lists grid is now sortable.
  • ADDED: To improve usability, the mailing list's address now displays in the title bar of the webpage when editing an existing mailing list.
  • FIXED: A domain's listserv command address now properly passes user verification when using Web service verification for smart hosts.
  • FIXED: After renaming a domain, the system administrator is now redirected to the new domain's page.

SmarterTools Reseller Performance


Over the years we have sold many products on ServerTastic. One of the companies we have worked with from the start has been SmarterTools. They produce an awseome range of products including SmarterMail (a highly efficient mail server with ActiveSync support), SmarterStats (a mega powerful web site statistics package with SEO reporting) and SmarterTrack (a customer service portal as used on ServerTastic).

This morning I received an email from them detailing my current reseller performance (we have to meet certain quarterly sales targets). In the summary was the lifetime total products sold. I have done a screen grab below as I could not believe it myself!

SmarterTools Release SmarterMail 6.6.3636


SmarterTools announces the release of SmarterMail 6.6.3636, which is available as a FREE minor version upgrade to all SmarterMail customers with current upgrade protection (10% Discount on ServerTastic).

Highlights of the SmarterMail 6.6.3636 release include:

  • CHANGED: Read and Mark As Read now have separate entries in the language file to ensure accurate translations.
  • CHANGED: The To pop-up window on the compose page is now wider, making it easier to select message recipients.
  • CHANGED: An error message now displays when a user forgets to select a user or group when trying to share mail, contacts, calendars, tasks, or notes.
  • FIXED: Impersonating a user in Safari for the Mac now functions as expected.
  • FIXED: Importing mailing list poster whitelists and blacklists using the Web service now functions as expected.

SmarterTools Launch new BETA Versions


SmarterTools is proud to announce the BETA release of SmarterTrack 4.5 and SmarterMail 6.5. 

New features available in SmarterTrack 4.5 include a redesigned agent status interface, improved KB search, and dozens of enhancements that improve usability and efficiency. 

New features available in SmarterMail 6.5 include antispam enhancements, Exchange ActiveSync support for Nokia phones, mailing list improvements, and integration for the Commtouch Zero-hour Antivirus add-on.

Participation in the BETA

Existing SmarterTrack 4.x and SmarterMail 6.x licensees and customers with current upgrade prot ection can install the BETA using their current active license key. For all other customers and those who do not wish to use their active license key, a BETA key can be obtained from the BETA signup page.

New BETA versions will be released periodically throughout the BETA period and information regarding these updates will be available in the forum. SmarterTools Upgrade Protection Promotion Ends

PROMOTION EXTENDED TO 30TH SEPTEMBER 2009

It is now the last few days before the end of the SmarterTools Upgrade Protection Promotion on 24th September 2009 30th September 2009.

At the moment you can obtain upgrade protection for any SmarterTools product for 50% of the products standard RRP price (plus extra 10% discount at ServerTastic).

After the 24th September 2009 30th September 2009 it will cost 85% of the products standard RRP price to "re-activate" upgrade protection (but you still get an extra 10% off with ServerTastic).

Products can only be upgraded to the latest version with upgrade protection. There is no longer a one off upgrade option available. 

In the future if you have existing upgrade protection then you will be able to renew this each year for 40% of the products standard RRP price (plus an extra 10% off with ServerTastic - did I say that already??).

This promotion presents a great opportunity to get all your products covered for 12 months upgrade protection at the low promo price before 24th September 2009 30th September 2009.

SmarterTools Upgrade Protection Promotion - CORRECTION


It seems a few bits of information I previously posted were wrong or as some UK customers would sometimes say "It's all gone Pete Tong"

A bit of a stir was created following my previous post on the SmarterTools Upgrade Protection Program.

I incorrectly stated that by purchasing the Upgrade Protection Promotion you would also be able to upgrade your version limits at the same time (such as increase number of sites / users / agents and move from PRO to ENT versions).

In an email conversation last week I confirmed with SmarterTools via email the details of the Upgrade Protection Promotion. I specifically asked about upgrading limits and about Pro to Ent upgrades and I was told that this was included within the promotion.

So I prepared all the information for the ServerTastic site and blog. I have now had to correct this information on the site and the original blog post.

Now that I have corrected the information please do not forget that this promotion still represents a good saving if you want to upgrade your current installation to the latest version within the next 12 months.

Everyone gets to make one Big Mistake?
